Embracing Change: Product Earth's Move to London

Updated: Jun 26

Since our inception in 2015, Product Earth has been a vibrant celebration of hemp and cannabis culture and community. We have always viewed cannabis as a gateway drug – a gateway to the world of wellness, with the potential to make all of us healthier and happier. Wellness encompasses support of all plant-based medicines, adaptogens, nootropics and other therapies outside of traditional pharmaceuticals. Since legalisation of medical cannabis in the UK, our mission has been to create an industry that benefits the planet and all its inhabitants. We have supported the UK hemp industry and believe that growth in the bioeconomy is critical to the future of our world. As a result, Product Earth has grown to be a celebration of natural medicines and natural products. This has enriched our community and expanded our reach.

As we have now seen in Germany, Europe is moving towards adult-use cannabis frameworks. This heralds the next phase of reform in the UK, and as the upcoming General Election looks like bringing a change of government, we will be pushing for a change in the unjust, immoral and harmful laws on cannabis.

A Broader Vision for a Sustainable Future

Products Earth’s mission originated around plant-based medicines, with a primary focus on cannabis education and exposure. Finding a venue which would support our show in the years prior to legalisation was challenging. After two years at the East of England Exhibition Centre, we were forced out and found it challenging to find a new location. In 2018, we had to cancel Product Earth because we couldn’t find anywhere suitable.

In November 2018, medical cannabis was legalised in the UK. We were able to approach the National Agricultural Exhibition Centre (NAEC) about Product Earth. With the booming CBD industry, the prospect of cannabis being prescribed, and the potential for hemp to transform industries, we were excited about persuading one of the UK’s most prestigious venues to host Product Earth.

In 2019, after the legalisation of medical cannabis in the UK, we have been more about fostering a sustainable industry that positively impacts the world. We moved to a venue that we felt supported this vision very well whilst still allowing us to run entertainment in the evening alongside the main trade expo.

Our Wonderful Time at NAEC

The NAEC in Kenilworth has been a fantastic venue for Product Earth. We have cherished every moment spent there, and we know our attendees have too. The central location in the UK made it accessible to many, but as we and the global industry grows, our needs have evolved. This brings us to the key reasons behind our move to London.

1. Expansion & Influence

While Kenilworth offered a central location, it was not easily accessible to everyone. London, with its global accessibility, offers us the chance to reach a broader audience. Our goal is to introduce the magic of Product Earth to those who are curious but not yet fully immersed in our world. London's international appeal aligns with our mission to grow and build a global industry that is inclusive and beneficial to all.

Furthermore, with the upcoming General Election, being in London gives us a strategic advantage. We are already working to create awareness among policymakers, aiming to debunk myths and shift public opinion. Being in the capital allows us to amplify our voice and influence change.

2. Enhanced Infrastructure

Although the NAEC provided ample space, we faced significant infrastructure challenges. Issues with electricity, plumbing, and unreliable Wi-Fi affected the overall experience. Our audience deserves the best, and moving to London allows us to offer top-notch facilities and a seamless experience for all attendees.

3. Safety & Security

The safety of our attendees is our top priority. While we've never faced significant incidents, the growing strain on the NAEC's infrastructure raised concerns. Moving to a more robust venue in London ensures we can maintain the highest safety standards as we continue to grow. Our commitment to safety and doing things the right way remains unwavering.

Looking Forward – our new venue at Drumsheds

As a result, after conversations with the NAEC, we took the decision to amicably part ways. We have known the team at Broadwick for many years. Broadwick is one of the UK’s leading venue and event management companies, and their focus on music and culture aligns with our values. After some discussions last year, we entered into a long term partnership with Drumsheds London.

Drumsheds, located in London, is an iconic club and event venue renowned for its immense industrial spaces and versatile layout. The venue is a reimagined former IKEA that provides various spaces for large-scale events, including its main area, the X Room, which can accommodate up to 15,000 people. This raw and expansive space is equipped with an in-house stage, PA system, and rigging facilities, making it ideal for major cultural and music events.

The venue also includes outdoor event spaces, such as The Yard, perfect for festivals and markets. With its blend of size, versatility, and unique industrial charm, Drumsheds stands out as a premier destination for a wide range of events in London. We are incredibly excited about the opportunity to bring the Product Earth experience to Drumsheds.

Accommodation and Camping

We know that many of you were excited about the opportunity to camp at the NAEC. While Drumsheds is in North London, we are happy to share that the Lea Valley Campsite (Edmonton) is a short bus ride away.

There are many other hotel, rental and Airbnb options which are also close by. We will share a further blog post on accommodation options for Product Earth in the next few days.

We are deeply grateful for the support and enthusiasm of our community. Your passion fuels our dedication to making Product Earth the best it can be. As we transition to London, we are excited about the opportunities ahead and the chance to bring our message to a larger audience. Together, we can continue to build a vibrant, sustainable industry that benefits everyone.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. We look forward to welcoming you to London and continuing this incredible adventure together.

Warm regards,

Matt Clifton
